Doctors and Food Specialists Battle to Obesity in Malaysia

The Malaysian government is now in the midst of combating the shortage of nutritionist and food specialist that lead to obesity. Doctors will normally advise patients about the diet plans in order to maintain healthy weight. According to Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, there are only 283 registered nutritionist with the ministry compared with 800 clinics.

"The minister aims to achieve a ratio of one nutritionist to every 10,000 people.  And we want at least 5,000 nutritionist to be employed over the next few years", Liow quoted saying.

Did you know that Malaysia has more numbers of obesity cases than its neighboring Asian countries?  Obesity is becoming a big problem not only in Malaysia but other countries. As we all know it contributes risks of serious problems such as heart disease and diabetes.
